About This Project

Gainesboro, Tennessee, was founded in 1820. The year 2020 is our 200th birthday!

The Jackson County Bicentennial Committee, the Historical Society, and the Chamber of Commerce are working together with the team at Notgrass History to interview local residents about their experiences here. We are using footage from the interviews to create videos to share on this site.

By preserving these voices and stories, we want to help local students learn about the history of their county and their county seat. This project can also show young people and families across the United States and around the world what it was like to grow up in a small American town in the 20th century. While every town’s history is unique, we all also have many things in common.
